Your Source for Inspiration
How do you like the new look of our newsletter? It's simply one of several ways the site is adapting to the needs of our users. In addition to an evolving look and an expanding blog, we've added a new domain: www.12writing.com. Our current 1-2-Writing Home will remain unchanged, but you can access our blogs (or send me an e-mail) through our new memory-friendly domain:

New Blog for Fiction and Poetry
Introduction to Fiction and Poetry Blog provides in-depth look at writing techniques applied to specific genres and styles.
Here at Hopkins, I teach a section of Introduction to Fiction and Poetry, an undergraduate course which brings together literature and creative writing. For this course, I've posted assignment notes online to give my students a closer look at the art of writing. If you're looking for tips on how to write a setting poem, or if you'd like to consider the difference between story and plot, click to Visit the IFP Blog.

Setting can be a key component to establishing the tone and realism of your piece.
Just as every character has different goals and conflicts, so too will each character have a unique voice. Use the unique voice to make your characters genuine and memorable.
The narrative poem offers a challenging foray into storytelling and rhythm - here we talk about where to start and how to keep going.
As Always, I hope the newsletter finds you well. If you would like to know more about any tips or techniques, or if you have any suggestions for the site, please let me know. And feel free to share the newsletter with your friends - it's always good to welcome new writers to the community.
Happy Writing!
